Neighbourhoods in South Yorkshire

South Yorkshire has more going for it than its reputation sometimes lets on. Sheffield is a city with genuine character, good culture, two universities and the Peak District starting at its edge. Doncaster sits at one of England's best transport junctions, with East Coast Mainline access to London and Edinburgh. Rents in both towns are among the most competitive in the North of England. Four Corners has homes in Sheffield and Doncaster.

Sheffield has reinvented itself considerably since its steel city heyday. The independent food and drink scene on London Road and in Kelham Island is genuinely good. Crookes and Broomhill have strong café and community cultures. The two universities bring a large student and graduate population that has shaped the city's creative and tech sector. Most strikingly, the Peak District National Park begins at Sheffield's southern edge, meaning Stanage Edge, Padley Gorge and the Derwent Valley are within a 20-minute drive of the city centre. It's a rare combination for a city of Sheffield's size. Doncaster is a different place in feel, more market town than city, but its transport credentials are exceptional: the A1(M), M18 and M1 all converge nearby, and East Coast Mainline trains to London Kings Cross, Leeds and Edinburgh run from the town centre station. The town itself has good independent restaurants, a strong market, and a community that takes pride in the place.

South Yorkshire is practical, affordable and more enjoyable than many people expect before they spend time here.
