Living in Perthshire

Perthshire sits at the heart of Scotland, with the River Tay running through much of the county and Perth itself acting as a hub for the road and rail network. Direct trains from Perth reach Edinburgh and Glasgow in under an hour, and the Cairngorms, Loch Tay and the Trossachs are all within easy reach. The area combines good high streets, solid independent food and drink and a cost of living considerably lower than Edinburgh or Glasgow. Four Corners has homes in Perth at the Bertha Park neighbourhood.

Perth is known as the Gateway to the Highlands, and that description holds up in practice. The A9 north of Perth gives access to Pitlochry, Blair Atholl, Aviemore and the Cairngorms in well under two hours. Loch Tay and Kenmore are under an hour west. The Trossachs National Park is accessible in a similar time. The city itself has a good range of cultural venues, including Perth Concert Hall and Perth Playhouse, a well-regarded art gallery and museum at the Perth Museum, and an independent food and drink scene on the High Street and around the South Inch park that has grown considerably in recent years. Perth's weekly farmers' market is one of Scotland's best. Inveralmond Retail Park on the northern edge of the city provides a full range of shops and services. Perth High School, one of the city's main secondary schools, is within the Bertha Park neighbourhood itself. The Bertha Park community sits beside Bertha Loch, with walking and cycling routes around the loch and into the surrounding countryside accessible directly from the neighbourhood.

Perthshire offers an unusually high quality of life: beautiful natural surroundings, a properly functional city at its centre, fast connections to Scotland's two biggest cities, and rents that reflect a Scottish market rather than an Edinburgh one.
