Telford isn't a county you hear people talk about often, which is part of what makes it worth considering. It's a well-organised new town with strong employment, good shops and parks, and the Ironbridge Gorge, Wrekin hill and Shropshire Hills right on its edge. Birmingham is 30 miles away. Telford was built in the 1960s and 70s from a group of smaller towns and villages, which gives it an unusual structure: green corridors, parks and woodland run through the built-up areas in a way that older industrial towns simply don't have. Telford Town Park, at the centre of it all, is one of the largest urban parks in England. Beyond the town, the Ironbridge Gorge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to a cluster of excellent museums and the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. The Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with Long Mynd and Caer Caradoc, is within easy reach to the west. The Wrekin itself, the iconic standalone hill that defines the Telford skyline, has walking routes to its summit from the town edge. Wellington train station, two miles from most of Telford, has regular services to Wolverhampton and Birmingham, and the M54 takes you east to the M6 in under 20 minutes.

For anyone who wants a well-equipped, spacious home in a town that functions well day to day, with serious countryside on the doorstep and reasonable rents, Telford deserves proper consideration.
